Sea routes from Incheon Port to the Americas are being facilitated on the strength of continuous increase in the quantity of cargoes transported.

Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr, CEO Bong-hyeon Nam) announced that Sea Route PS1(Pacific Southwest 1) services offered from Incheon Port to the U.S. by Hyundai Merchant Marine continues to grow as each voyage recorded 1,300 TEUs in the average quantity of cargoes transported this year.

According to IPA, PS1 Service have offered services in the name of HNS (Hyundai New Start) since opening of Incheon New Port in 2015, and it is being operated in the name of PS1 after adjustment of sea routes on April 2. In 2015 when it was opened, PS1 service recorded 700 TEUs in the average quantity of cargoes transported per voyage, but the average quantity dropped to less than 600TEUs per voyage last year when Hyundai Merchant Marine, an operator of the pertinent sea route, faced managerial difficulties.

However, the crises were successfully overcome as the quantity of cargoes transported is gradually increased on the back of close cooperation among IPA, shippers, terminal operators and CIQ institutions for the purpose of maintenance and facilitation of services and raised value and diversification of main items into frozen and cold-storage livestock products and fruits.

An official with IPA said, “On the back of increased quantity of PS1 service cargoes, HNS offering the pertinent service set 135,000 TEUs as its cargo target in Incheon port for this year. The challenging target is twice more than the value set last year. HNS is making a lot of efforts to induce import and export cargoes from the capital area in order to fulfill the target. Paying attention to the fact that the quantity of containers transported through Incheon Port grew by 12.7% last year, the company is positively considering introducing new regular container transport routes bound for Southeast Asia.”
