Top-ranked Maersk opens another service connecting
Incheon Port and Southeast Asia
Maersk opens a new service departing from Incheon Port and calling in
Indonesia and Malaysia

○ Maersk, the world’s No. 1 shipping company, opened a
new service departing from Incheon Port and connecting to
Southeast Asia early this year following a similar move by
Ocean Network Express.

○ Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr, Acting President
Hong Kyung-sun) announced that Sealand Maersk1), the
operator of the existing Southeast Asia service departing
from Incheon Port (IA5 calling in Malaysia, the
Philippines, etc.), deployed Maersk Yamuna to IA82), a
newly launched Southeast Asia service, and the vessel
entered HJIT at Incheon New Port on the 18th.

○ This service calls at Incheon, Dalian, Tianjin, Lianyungang,
Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Jakarta, Surabaya, Jakarta,
Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Hong Kong, Keelung, and
Incheon, with six 5,500TEU-plus vessels deployed.

○ IPA performed two port marketing presentations for

Sealand Maersk in 2019 to describe the advantages of
Incheon Port in detail, such as its accessibility to the
metropolitan area.

○ With the addition of this service, the Indonesia service
departing from Incheon Port has been expanded to three
voyages per week, offering a wider spectrum of choice for
cargo owners. It is expected to significantly contribute to
increasing container traffic volume related to Southeast
Asia.

○ Maersk said, “Besides the newly launched IA8, we decided
to launch IA88 on the 23rd (Sun.), which departs from
Incheon Port and calls at Ho Chi Minh and Laem Chabang,
to increase container traffic volume related to Vietnam and
Thailand. We will work harder to diversify the services
offered at Incheon Port.”

○ IPA Vice President for Operations Lee Jeong-haeng stated,
“New services continue to open this year, starting with
Ocean Network Express in early January. We will provide
full support to help these new services take firm root as
quickly as possible.”

○ Maersk is a shipping company headquartered in
Denmark. According to Alphaliner, it ranked first among
global shipping companies in 2019 in terms of slots.
With the two services newly launched this month, it now
offers a total of three services at Incheon Port.
